Dhrupad by Niloy Ahsan
Niloy Ahsan views music as the embodiment of Prana, a profound inner symphony, with Dhrupad as a spiritual journey towards self-awareness. A 21st-generation exponent of the Dagar lineage, a Hindustani classical tradition spanning 21 generations, his artistry is a living testament to a legacy rooted in the 15th-century mystic, Swami Haridas. Revered for his mastery over traditional forms such as Dhrupad, Dhamar, and Khayal, Ahsan blends the ascetic rigor of Dagarvani Dhrupad with the melodic versatility of Sadharani Geeti. His meditative renditions of the Alap showcase intricate microtonal inflections. Having begun his musical journey at four under his father's guidance, he later trained with Padma Shri Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar and the Gundecha Brothers. His career highlights include performing with A.R. Rahmanā€™s Firdaus Orchestra at the Dubai Expo 2021, collaborating with Vyacheslav Guyvoronsky in Saint Petersburg, and contributing to Prem Joshua's album and Gorillaz's recording.
