Taus Recital by Sandeep Singh & Avirbhav Verma
Sandeep Singh belongs to a family of traditional Raagis (Sikh devotional singers). An A-grade artist of All India Radio & Doordarshan, Singh has many firsts to his credit. He has performed on many stages in India and also staged performances in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand etc. Besides being a classical artist, Singh also regularly collaborates with renowned artists from Punjabi cinema. In 2018, he collaborated with A.R. Rahman. Singh has been instrumental in reviving the string instruments - the taus and dilruba - by becoming the first artist to play these instruments in the Harmandar Sahib, the Golden Temple. He is the recipient of many awards.
Born into a family of musicians, Avirbhav Verma is the son of the late Shri Pawan Kumar Verma, an illustrious tabla maestro, from whom he learnt his first lessons. After his father's untimely demise, Verma continued his studies with his grandfather, Guru Pt. Lachman Singh Seen, one of the pillars of the Punjab Gharana. On the basis of his performances in Punjab Kala Bhawan, Verma was selected to visit the U.K. under the Shropshire Punjab Cultural Exchange project. After years of training, Verma has gained noticeable command of musical genres such as the Peshkar, Keyda, Pranas, Charkadar Tukras, Gats and Laggis, Chakradar Tahais. The Government of Punjab awarded him a Certificate of Merit, which was presented by Punjabā€™s Chief Minister. Verma has performed with several renowned artistes and also staged many solo performances.
